About
A shared casebook for people who run sport and people who study it
Ethics Cases: Sport is the sport section of Ethics Cases. It collects real, well-documented sports ethics cases and presents each one the same way: a plain-language summary, a dated timeline, the ethical issues at stake, the stakeholders involved, a practical takeaway for practitioners, discussion questions for classrooms, and a list of sources you can check yourself.
Who it's for
- Practitioners in athletic departments, leagues, teams, governing bodies, and foundations who want concise lessons on governance, risk, compliance, and culture.
- Academics, meaning professors and students in sports ethics, sport management, and sports administration courses, who need reliable case material with citations.
Editorial standards
- Documented facts only. Cases draw on primary sources wherever possible (official decisions, court opinions, investigative reports) and on reputable reporting.
- Neutral framing. Summaries describe what happened and what was found. Analysis is kept in the ethical issues, takeaway, and question sections.
- Verifiable sources. Every case lists its sources with working links. If a link breaks or a fact needs correcting, please let us know.
- Reviewed and dated. Each case shows when it was last reviewed.
Who maintains it
Ethics Cases is created and edited by Tanner Simkins, who teaches and writes on sports ethics and sports administration.
